Yesterday Seth and I went out with LeeYen and did a fun photoshoot!

Here is the preview:

This was right before we lost the baloons with the keys attached t the bottom, and right before it stormed all over us and we all had to run for cover.

All of this made it so much fun!!

Keep checking back for the rest soon!

Today I am grateful for Fall, and the beautiful scenery it brings us!

And I am also grateful for this random guy, who gave me a great picture.

Awesome Halloween Week!

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday!

Photobucket

You get to dress up, eat lots of candy, carve pumpkins, and go to haunted houses! Aweeeeeessoooome! This week was so much fun. We tried to not let school and work interfere too much, and it ended up being a great week.

We started out with the Haunted Lagoon at the PCC. We didn't go last year, so this was our first time going. It is a haunted house put on by the PCC, but you ride as a group down the lagoon in the canoes as a bunch of things jump out at you! I was pretty nervous, since I am so incredibly jumpy, but we ended up having SO much fun!
Photobucket

It was freaky. The Lady of Laie was so creepy. SO CREEPY! I guess I thought everything was creepy.  All of these things were hiding in the lagoon and jumping out right next to me, and I got so jumpy that even the rustling of leaves would make me jump!

The scariest part was when I was looking to the right at something scary, and clinging to Seth's arm (I was on the left edge of the canoe in the back) and when I turned around some monster thing had climbed up ON THE CANOE behind me and put his freaky face on the left of mine. I completely lost it and thought I was going to die. Seth said he didn't know I could reach such high octaves.  From then on the monster people seemed to know I was a good target because they kept popping up right next to me. As freaky as it was, I ended up loving it! I wish I could go over and over again! So fun! We were really impressed with how much work the PCC put into the haunted lagoon!

Unfortunately on Halloween, I had to be at school most of the day doing research and Seth had to work. (Bummer). But the kids Seth works with dressed up, and he sent me a picture! This is Ritchie (Dog the Bounty Hunter) and Scott (a pimp). It was hilarious.

I also got a picture of my sister Jordie's costume, which I thought was pretty cool:

...A bunch of grapes!

When Seth got home he surprised me with his costume:

A Mexican Chargers fan. hahaha. Apparently him and his cousin Kelly had been wearing these mustaches around all day at work.

We ended up heading up to Haleiwa  for dinner, and spending the rest of the day watching the sun set and eating lots and lots of leftover candy.

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!

A sad pumpkin story

This week Seth and I ventured down to the pumpkin patch in Kapolei, excited to pick out our own pumpkins this year! Sadly, we were sorely disappointed.
Photobucket

Don't be fooled by that picture....all of the pumpkins left were rotten!!! ALL of them. Or what was left of them.

I was wondering why no one was walking back out of the farm without pumpkins. There weren't any!

This pumpkin was plain ol' naaaaaaaassty.

Photobucket

So....

I decided to throw it.

And it exploded on the ground.

Seth did the same.

And we felt better.

No pumpkins for us. I was really bummed. But on our way out we picked up some fresh corn on the cob.

At least we didn't pay for parking (parked on the outside). If you want to see what a REAL pumpkin patch looks like, go HERE to Emerson's blog!

This is definitely one of those times where I miss the mainland dearly. It's SafeWay pumpkins for us this year!

Makapu'u Ridge hike

Once again, for BIOL 204, we had to go on a 12 hour excursion. This time, we went to Makapu'u. Instead of taking the nice paved road up to the top of the ridge, we went around the cliffs, up the ridge, and around the mountain to get to the top, while looking at all of the biology and geological formations at the same time. Dr. Bruner, Dr. Gold, and Dr. Hammond lead the hike, so we got more than enough info on biota, microbiology, and geology.

Photobucket

The hike was pretty scary at the top---a really narrow trail on a high cliff with a lot of obstacles in the way. I was actually surprised we were being taken on this hike for a class! It was awesome. It reminded me of the Na Pali hike. The views from the side were incredible and the ocean was so blue and calm that day!

Photobucket

On the right there is a cool place to jump off into a little bay area. I loved how remote it was!

We passed by some cool geological structures and plants that we had to memorize for a test when we finished the hike. (crazy!)

This is a sea stack:

The view at the top of the ridge is my favorite view of Hawaii:

My friend Mel and I taking a break from hiking (and listening....too much geology for one day if you ask me...)

We learned all about how Rabbit Island (Manana) and Kaohikaipu island were formed!

There were a lot of parachuters drifting down, and I got a close-up of one:

Photobucket

See them all at the top?

Hiking around the ridge allowed me to get some great shots of the lighthouse!

The hike down was rough (lots of cactus and thorny plants) and left me with a lot of cuts.

Our second hike (yes, there was another hike!), we went to the ridge between Haunama bay and Sandy's to study geology.

After the hike I was so happy to get home! I was sunburned in all the wrong places too---lots of tan lines! My favorite was the tan line from my knee brace. I have a nice read circle on my knee. When I got home I was greeted by this guy at my doorstep:

He was all bugged by the flash and closed one eye. I'd like to think he was winking at me. :)

Have a Happy Sunday!
