Thanksgiving weekend on Maui

We had SO MUCH FUN this Thanksgiving weekend!

This year we went with the Nathaniel and Camille Dixon over to Maui! It was so much fun. We left Baloo with Lacey's Grandma in Honolulu and left Wednesday night. We stayed in North Kihei at some random vacation rental that actually turned out to be really nice! We ate Thanksgiving dinner at Bill and Shelly's, who are friends of Camille from back in Idaho. It was DELICIOUS! We all ate a ton and spent the rest of the day on the beach! The next day we went to Hana, which was a day trip. To get there we had to go on a crazy windy one lane road next to a cliff! It was nuts! After surviving the cliff drive and local people speeding past us on one lane bridges, we made it to Hana and stopped off at a lot of beautiful places! Then we did a hike up to Waimoku falls through bamboo forest, and it was awesome and so much fun! Seth and Nathaniel ended up jumping off of some rocks into the pools. We all got to go tree climbing and the swimming under the waterfall.
The next day we decided to go to Haleakala crater, which is 10,000 feet high! It was FREEZING up there. Everyone had jackets and windbreakers except for us...haha. When we climbed to the top we ended up getting in our bathing suits to show how tough we are but ended up looking kind of stupid...haha! The view was breathtaking because we were up in the clouds! Then we went to 'Iao valley to see the needle! The valley was really gorgeous and lush. Camille and Lacey wanted to get a good pic of the needle so they climbed over the rail and some random grumpy tourist asked if we went to school and if we can read...too bad there was no sign that said we couldn't go over the rail! We deemed him the grumpiest man in Hawaii. haha.
So then went on another crazy road on the way to Lahaina--another one lane cliff road!! Who was the guy to design these roads? Seriously it was scary. But we made it to a random spot in the middle of nowhere and climbed down a cliff to some cool tide pools where we got to go swimming with fish! And then we found a blowhole that was going off! It was awesome. And lets not forget the many many stops at Krispy Kreme! They really should build one on O'ahu. So we made it back in time for school on Monday. And we're glad to have Fatty back! It was an AWESOME trip!

Next stop: California! (..and Disneyland!)

Philippines, here we come!

Well we just found out that next summer we will be living in the Philippines for 2 whole months doing research for BYU Hawaii! The school is completely paying for everything! We're super excited because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it will be fun to get to know the Filipino people and their culture. Our research projects will also look good our both of our resumes for future job opportunities. We can't wait to go!

A Gorgeous Hawaiian Sunset

On Saturday we decided to go to our favorite spot by Turtle Bay to watch the sunset. We knew it would be beautiful, but we were still surprised by how breathtaking the view was! This is what we saw:

Isn't it amazing???

Inauguration of President Wheelwright

This morning we were able to attend the Inauguration of BYUH's new president: President Wheelwright! President Eyring was there along with Elder Nelson. The spirit that was felt there was awesome. It was really cool to see President Eyring and Elder Nelson in their professor robes too! Our digital camera is not the best when it comes to taking pictures from a distance! ...but these are the pictures we got!
(Click on the picture to get a clearer view of it!)

President Eyring (Pink robe) and Elder Nelson (Black/green robe) walking in the CAC followed by President WheelWright, Elder Kerr, and all of the professors of BYUH in their dress robes.

Everyone up on the stand. (We couldn't get a good picture with the flash on!)

Elder Nelson conducted the ceremony.

Elder Eyring did the Inauguration. This is us experimenting with the flash.....

...and with no flash!
I think the people around me were getting annoyed with the flashing camera, so eventually we stopped! But it was really nice to be able to experience this and be able to see President Eyring and Elder Nelson.
